Jeans for Women A Status Symbol What?
If you are a conventionalist to believe people are carried away by their dresses, so be it. Modern concepts are changing fast and ladies are classified by the Jeans they are wearing into working class or high end or lower echelon. Though it is unfair to judge by the outward appearance, because Jeans have a universal appeal both by men and women, and anything in this category of dress material can vary by its price. Just because a costly Designer Denim is worn by chance, it does not mean that chic is from the Royal family.
It is interesting to go into the history of Ladies Jeans – particularly in UK, where the long gowns were the tradition for ladies, for centuries for public appearance. Pants with two provisions for legs were a dress reserved solely for the gentlemen from time immemorial. Perhaps the convenience of walking to riding a horse with separated legs on both sides would have been the reason behind it.
Even for the men folk, it took longer years to convert to Jeans made of thicker and rougher cloth material, as only soft varieties like Tweed and Tuxedo were wielding the dress fashions. In the 1940s Jeans for gents got introduced in the fashion world and got the fire of publicity for its rugged casualness. By 1950 it caught up wild publicity as a casual wear for ladies also – courtesy celluloid celebrities and hippy culture.
Gradually Denim material showed its head in making Jeans and it was not until 1970 Ladies Designer Denim became popular. Skintight Jeans with innumerable adverts slapped on the back-pocket were the fancy of the ladies, and designers made hay while it was still shining. For over 30 years, Ladies Jeans were widely used by any Jane or Jon and Liz that it became a common sight for ladies of any class wearing it and they could not be differentiated by the casual blue jeans, the price of which was a throw-away one.
By 2000 the craze for Ladies Jeans went up again, by a particular brand attracted by its long cut and lean look with vintage wash caught up the fashion world by fire. Reason being everyone in the society from college students to celebrities, receptionist to regional manager or ladies in the high end families fell for this new trend (actually an old one reviving as is the practice). The price of these Jeans pants was accepted as moderate, even though during the years it went up heavily.
Within 5 years the Denim Jeans for Women designer industry did roaring business in millions. It continues even now, as people from all walks of life buy and wears Designer Denim Jeans and you cannot make out their social status – wealthy, working class or not those rich kinds – by the looks of it. So the right answers for the question – Jeans for women a status symbol what? – are no and certainly not.
